The Vichy Dermablend Foundation is a foundation that I've wanted to try for absolutely ages! And when I saw it on offer in Boots, I bought it straight away. So lately my skin has been awful: Very red and rather reactive and also a little spotty (yuk!) but a bad mix of hormones and fast food have led to my skincare woes (I promise I will stop eating bad, erm soon! haha!) Anywho I digress: I was hoping that the Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation would be the answer to my skin nightmares, so lets take a look shall we?
The first thing I was surprised and rather disappointed about was the shade: It was so dark: As you can see above, initially the swatches are almost orange! Had I bought the wrong shade: I checked the bottle: Nope, 05 Porcelain. Well their idea of Porcelain and my idea of Porcelain are very different! Porcelain to me is like a doll: Exceedingly pale (basically almost white) Honestly why are so many foundations so sodding orange?! Anywho, I thought I would still try the foundation and hope that I could blend it enough for it to appear light enough on my skin (or maybe I should look into getting a tan?!)
The foundation is very thick (as you would imagine, as it is used for correcting the skin, and can apparently conceal tattoos (I have no tattoos to try this on) I also found it rather dry: I used my hands to warm the foundation, but then I applied it with my trusty Real Techniques Buffing Brush
You have to really work this foundation into the skin to get a flawless coverage: It feels quite heavy if applied all over the face. I would recommend using it instead of concealer as it is so thick. You have to be very careful not to apply too much (otherwise you run the risk of being caked in heavy foundation)
My recommendations for applying this particular foundation would be to:
Moisturise before using (or use a hydrating primer)
Warm the foundation with your fingers and then buff into the skin using a buffing brush
Alittle goes a long way: You only need a small amount to get full coverage
One applied correctly (it took a couple of attempts to get it looking how I wanted it to) The foundation lasts all day with minimal touch-ups. It covers everything: redness / spots / scarring all gone!
HOWEVER: The shade range is terrible! Admittedly Vichy only used to have this in 5 shades and there now 10 shades available, which is of course a massive improvement. However non of the shades are pale enough for my skin. So if I want to use this foundation I have to mix it with a whitening foundation, so I only tend to use it when I skin is particularly bad and I need the extra coverage.
So if your looking for a high coverage foundation and they have this in your shade (please check your shade in store before you buy it to avoid mega foundation disappointment) Then woo- Go ahead and buy it, it has beautifully high coverage that lasts all day, doesn't sink into pores and leaves you feeling confident in your skin.
HOWEVER if you cannot find a shade of the Vichy Dermablend Foundation in your shade, then opt for the Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation (One of the best foundations for flawless skin and high coverage, with a hell of a lot more shades available!)
