When I was first pregnant, one of the things I was most looking forward to was buying all the things! The clothes, the toys, the pram, you name it I was desperate to buy everything. Unfortunately my hormones and my excitement resulted in some rather odd purchases............
An Expensive Baby Bath
Seriously I paid £90 for a baby bath! £90 bloody pounds? Its just a glorified washing up bowl. It supposedly weighs the baby and tells you the temperature of the bath water (both of which are constantly very inaccurate!) Either I received a faulty one, or these baths are just crap.
Newborn Baby Clothes
You know those teeny-tiny baby clothes for new born babies (usually targeted at babies around the 7 pounds mark) Yeah I bought loads of them as I was convinced I was going to deliver early (my nephew was 9 weeks premature so I'm probably a little paranoid) So I bought loads of those teeny tiny outfits. Emmy was 8 pound, 6 ounces when she was born, so no chance of her fitting into any of the small baby clothes!
A Moses Basket
Yes, they look cute and if you really want one, go for the cheaper option. Emmy never used hers, she just didn't want to sleep in it for some reason, and they grow out of them so fast!
Expensive Cot Bedding
These usually include Cot Bumpers, Blankets and Pillows all of which aren't recommended by the Lullaby Trust. I spent £60 on a set that's never been used, as I do not want to use things which may pose a safety hazard.
Boys Clothes
I didn't find out the sex of the baby, but I was convinced I was having a boy (not that I was bothered about the sex; I just wanted a baby! But anywho, I was completely convinced we were having a boy (everyone in my family has boys, I have two big brothers and two nephews) So I was astonished when we had our little Emmy. I'm hoping we have a little boy next and I can finally use all the boys clothes I bought. Obviously Emmy has worn certain things, but I didn't want to dress her in blue and have people asking if it she's a boy, but that's just my prerogative.
Shoes for Newborns
They just don't bloody stay on! So frustrating. You end up losing so many pairs. And I mean little shoes are mega cute, but try to pick up some of the cheaper options (Asda do some lovely baby bits)
An Expensive Pram
I didn't buy a pram until I was 30 weeks pregnant (I had a bad start to my pregnancy, so didn't get my hopes up, so I left everything to the last minute.) So by 30 weeks pregnant, I was hormonal, tired and just wanted to get things over and done with. I picked a pram I liked, but I didn't fully research it. I went for looks over practicality. Don't get me wrong I like the Pram I chose (The Dubatti One Stroller) However for £900 I think I should have done my research and shopped around a little more! So when looking for a pram, make sure you do your research and ask other mums what prams are the best.
Manual Breast Pump
These just feel so icky! In my personal experience, they are hard to use, painful and just don't bloody work. Much easier to express with your hands (Ah, the joys of motherhood)
A Cot Mobile
We have one with flying bears that plays nature sounds. Rather than lull Emmy into a deep sleep, it seems to cause more distraction, with her attempting to grab it! Baby's?! Who'd have um?! Ha!
Baby Sleeping Bags
I know a lot of mums love these, but unfortunately I just couldn't get on with them. Emmy detests them! The few times I've put them on her, she has cried and cried. I have no idea why she has such an aversion to them, but I wouldn't bother with them again.
Are there any baby products you wouldn't recommend to other mums?
I plan to do a post all about baby products I couldn't live without, so make sure you follow to keep up-to-date
